THE PEOPLE

Introducing the united nations of Red Ginger

Leslie Ford  owner, co-founder, manager. After a career in theatre arts and voice teaching Leslie found herself in Byron Bay asking, “What can we do that Byron needs?” With the right ingredients and an alchemy of talent and passion an idea transformed into a business and magic happened! Born in New Zealand she is still here heading the team 20 years later.

Hadassa Fielder — originally from Israel, joined Red Ginger when we opened the Bangalow store in 2009. She manages Bangalow like it was her own and is a much loved member of the Bangalow community welcoming everyone with enthusiasm and love and running the store with great efficiency and order.

Ayumi Kimura Paterson — Ayumi joined us in 2015 and has fitted right into the magnificent Red Ginger team. She has 2 children and loves to dance. She teaches dance to children in her spare time.

Vanessa Weekes — has been our book keeper since 2009 and keeps us tidy and up to date in that department. She brings genuine warmth and friendship to her work and is a very supportive team member.

Saya Minami — Saya is an aspiring actress and has worked in film both here and in Japan. She has just returned to work at Red Ginger after a few years away. We are very happy to have her back.

Suzanne Shahar was new to the team in 2020. She is a long term local Byron resident well known for starting the Hug-a Bub baby carrier business.

Tanya Muller - Tanya was a customer for many years and joined us in 2023. She is a passionate vegan cook and brings her love of food and her genuine warmth to her work at Red Ginger.

Lyndy Lee Lyndy is a well known Byron local with her eccentric taste in eyeware and matching lipstick. Lyndy is a foodie through and through and loves a good cooking show.

Satomi Hook —  Originally from Osaka, Japan, where all the best Japanese comedians come from, keeps us laughing with her humour and charms us with her strength and wisdom. She has been with Red Ginger more than 10 years and works in both the Byron and Bangalow stores.

Michiko Ono Couglan — Joined us in 2014 and quickly became a much loved, strong reliable member of the team, easily fitting in with us all. She works in both the Byron and Bangalow stores and loves to surf on her days off. She is an animal lover and has a dog grooming business on the side.

Portia Tresselt— A long time Byron local who runs the LIMEADE stall at the markets and works part time at Red Ginger.

Cathy Campbell — Joined us at the beginning of 2014 and brings a gentle warmth and creativity to the team. She has her own graphic design business. She has become responsible for all Red Ginger graphic design as well as Facebook and Instagram.

Dee Grant Joined us in 2017 but has been around helping Marie with the Yum Cha at festivals for quite a few years. She is a well known face around Byron from her time at Bay Seafood and Thursday mornings selling tomatoes at the Farmers' Market. She now owns and runs the FESTIVAL YUM CHA stall selling dumplings at Splendour in the Grass, Falls, Blues and the Byron Bay Writers festivals.

Glenn Morgan — Our very good friend who helps this community of women with stuff that boys can do and fix with a generosity that knows no bounds.  Thanks Glenn for all the years of friendship and help!

The After School Team - Aaron, John and Jed come to help us clean up at the end of the day. Recycling is an important part of our daily routine and these young people keep it running smoothly.
